Cluster and Stripe Legwarmers

Make these super cute cluster and stripe legwarmers just in time for fall! They look adorable with a denim skirt and would be perfect for even colder days with tights or leggings underneath.

SIZE: This pattern is written to fit approximately ages 3-5.
(Sizes may be adjusted up or down by simply measuring around the child's leg above the knee. Make your starting chain the same length as the measurement. Be sure the starting chain ends with an odd number. Then work the pattern adding or subtracting stitches to achieve the desired size. For length measure from above the knee to the ankle. Work the pattern until the desired length is achieved.)

Cluster is "{yarn over, insert hook into next chain 2 space, yarn over, draw the yarn through the space, yarn over, draw the yarn through two loops on the hook.} Repeat {} once in the same chain 2 space. Then yarn over and draw through all three remaining loops on the hook." One 2 double crochet cluster is complete.
Beginning Cluster is "ch 3, 1 dc in the same space as join." One 2 double crochet beginning cluster is complete.

Worsted Weight Yarn
Size U.S. G/6 (4.00mm)
Tapestry Needle
2 yrds of 1" ribbon

Join all round.
Do not turn after rounds.
Hold short ends of the yarn close to your work and crochet over them as you work. This will eliminate weaving lots of loose ends later.

Starting out: Begin with your main color. Ch 35.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Continue working sc in each ch st to end. Join w/ sl st in 1st sc. (34sc) You will now be working in rounds.

Rnd 1: Ch3. Work 1 dc in next st. Ch1. {Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through two loops on the hook leaving the last loop on the hook (there are now two loops on the hook). Then yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn trough the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through two loops on the hook leaving the last loop on the hook (there are now 3 loops on the hook). Yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook. Ch1.} Repeat {} around. Join in top of the first 2dc cluster. Fasten off. (17 2dc clusters complete)
Rnd 2: Join new color in last ch1 stitch then sc in same ch1 space. {Ch2 then sc in the next ch1 space.} Repeat {} around. End rnd w/ ch2 then join w/ sl st in beginning ch2 sp. Fasten off. (17 ch2 spaces)
Rnd 3: Join new color in the beginning ch2 sp of last rnd. Work beginning cluster in same stitch as join. Ch 1. {Work cluster, ch1 in the next ch 2 sp.} Repeat {} around. Join w/ sl st in top of beginning cluster. Fasten off. (17 clusters)
Round 4 -28: Repeat round 2 for even rounds. Repeat round 3 for odd rounds.
Round 29: Repeat rnd 3. DO NOT FASTEN OFF.
Rnd 30: Ch 1. {Sc in next ch1 sp then sc in top of cluster.} Repeat {} around. Join in top of first sc. (34sc) Fasten off.

Whip stitch initial chain together with beginning tail.
Weave in ends.
Then weave ribbon through the top row of clusters.

  11. Dumb question but I'm in a hurry and don't have time to "make the pattern" in my head to see it but is ye the ribbon needed to hold the legwarmers up or is it just an embellishment?

  13. In rnd 1 did you mean to leave the ch1 inside the brackets to be repeated around? that's the only way I could make sense of what it says in rnd 2. I too was wondering if the ribbon was a necessity or an embellishment but so far i'm thinking embellishment. super excited about them. thanks!
