How To Move To A Custom Domain In Blogger

Have you thought about moving your blog address to a custom domain but want to stay hosted on blogger?
It's really quite simple. Last week Tangled Happy moved from a blogspot address to a .com. Tangled Happy is still hosted on blogger the only thing that changed is my web address. I purchased the domain name last December but didn't make the move because I wasn't sure how the whole process worked. I have to tell you it was surprisingly simple.
Here's a quick how to for those of you thinking about making the switch from a blogspot address to a .com.

Step 1: Purchase a domain name.
I purchased my domain name tanglehappy.com at 1and1.com. I chose 1and1 based on the recommendation of other bloggers.

Step 2: Follow this tutorial on how to use a custom domain for your blog. In the process of making the switch I noticed you can also purchase a custom domain through blogger. Just click the link and select which of these options is right for you. Then follow the steps laid out in the tutorial. Thats it!

I told you it was super simple.
The best part... Your blogspot address will automatically forward to your new domain and any existing links or bookmarks to your site will still work.
A bit off topic today but I thought this might be helpful to some of you other bloggers.
So if you've been thinking about making the switch... Go ahead. Be daring!

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

  2. Hi Sara, thank you for the information. I was wondering what the advantage is to a .com account. I am very ignorant with anything other then the basics in blogland, but am always wanting to learn more. Thanks so much. Am till throughly enjoying your spinning tutorials. They are great! xoRobin❤

  3. This is so awesome and timely. My current post talks about how to make your own social media buttons, badge, header, bkgd, and more!

  4. Brilliant timing. I have been considering changing my blog domain too, but didn't really want to go through the whole copy and paste thing with my old posts, and redirecting people to a new site. This will be perfect. Thanks heaps.

  5. Hi Hillery. I paid $4.99 to purchase the domain name for one year from 1&1. Looks like year two will be $9.99 with them. If you decide to purchase your domain name from blogger it is $10.00 for one year. Because your blog will still be hosted on blogger its free. Hope that helps!

  6. Meaning your hosting will still be free. Wanted to be sure I was clear on that. :)

  7. Wow, that's awesome! I've been wanting to do that, and change my blog address without having to change a bunch of links. I don't like the 'blogger' add-on - I'd rather have .com. Thank you so much for sharing this, Sara.
