Hi Sara! This is my first time here, and I LOVE this sweet little pattern! I'm thinking maybe I might like to make one as a camera bag for the new camera I just got for my birthday yesterday! Thank you for sharing your pattern, and have a nice weekend! (I'm now a follower!) ~tina
ReplyDeleteHey Sara!
ReplyDeleteLovely bag. Your blog is beautiful.
Could you please tell me what would be the finish size of this bag?
Thanks.
Mehvish
Hi Mehvish. Thank you for popping by Tangled Happy! The finished bag is 8" wide and 6" high. You can easily make this bag bigger by increasing the initial chain in 3's. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteDear Sara,
ReplyDeleteThis bag is just lovely, very cute indeed! I also saw this little bag on your Ravelry Store.
I would like to send you an special invitation on behalf of HandbagLessons.com. Do you have an email address I can use to send you more information about it? Or if you prefer you can contact me at daniela@handbaglessons.com

Thanks for the pattern. I gave it a try last night and was able to make the small purse for my daughter in about an hour or two. I ran out of the yarn I was using, so my handles aren't as sturdy, but it's so cute. I plan to blog about it soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this pattern! I was able to make it in a morning! Too cute! I found your blog via Ravelry, and I love it! :) Would you be okay with me selling a few purses in my Etsy shop?
ReplyDeleteThank you!
How cute! Can't wait to make it. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteBefore the Sun Goes Down,
ReplyDeleteFeel free to make and sell this purse in your etsy shop. My only request is that you let others know where your found the pattern so if they wanted they could make one too. Also I would love to see your shop. Would you mind sharing the web address. If you would rather your can email me privately tangledhappy@gmail.com. Merry Christmas!
I found this pattern and have made a few bags as gifts for friends. I have had some requests from others and was wondering what your policy is on selling the finished product? I would sell them on etsy and locally here in Sweden, and of course cite you as the pattern source.
ReplyDeleteThe pattern is just gorgeous and so easy...I can sit and make a bag while watching the kidlets in the park. Thank you so much for sharing.

This is the best pattern!

hope you like what i've made
Thanks for dropping in on my blog, Sara. I'm just loving your blog. And bookmarking so many projects in queue.... Thanks for all the lovely patterns
ReplyDeleteJust recently found your blog I love the little purse it is so cute I am going to make it. Thank you for sharing a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your nice comment Carol. I'm so glad you like it!
ReplyDeleteSara, Please help! I'm so sorry, I'm relatively new to crochet, struggle at times and have nobody to go to for guidance... Ok, here is my problem...In row 1 when it states "Join w/ sl st in 1st sc" can you clarify this for me please? Am I to join to the opposite end to where my hook is to form a "loop"? Silly to get stumped so early! I LOVE this little bag and MUST make many!!! Thank you so much....Jill
ReplyDeleteHi Jill. Sounds like you are on the right track. You are joining to the opposite end to form a "loop". After completing row one the rest of the bag is worked in rounds or maybe what you would call a loop. Hope that helps! :)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm a beginner crocheter, and i just started working on this cute pattern. I have a few questions:
-In Round 1, the pattern says that one should complete 17 shells in that round, but is that including the beginning shell?
-Also, in Round 2,I don't really know how to do the part where the pattern says to sl st in each dc of shell into sp between first shell. Could you possibly explain more clearly as to what I should do in that part?
Sorry if m questions seem a bit dumb...
Thanks so much!
Izzy darling.
ReplyDeleteRound one- Yes that includes the starting shell.
Round two- Slightly confused me to but what you do is slip stitch into the beginning chain three. Then just like you would with any regular SC you slip stitch into the next to stitches (The top of the DC's)
You can email me anytime for questions
tattooedrat@yahoo.com
Thanks Tattooed Rat for replying to Izzy's question! That is correct. Round one does include the begging shell. And in round two slip stitch into the beginning ch then slip stitch in the next two stitches. Work the beginning shell in the gap between the next shell and then continue working shells in each space around. I hope that helps! Feel free to email me as well if you have more questions at tangledhappy@gmail.com.

DeleteHi Sara,
DeleteI too am a beginner crocheter (an experienced knitter, but that doesn't help :-) and am also stuck on the second row.
I understand slip stitching through but when I make the next shell between what I think is the correct space it juts doesn't look like the rows in the photo of the bag.
I must be using the wrong space/gap or just not giving it enough time to grow. It looks like round shells keep forming on top but not like the pic. I really seem to get stuck on row 3, it looks ok until then.
I love this bag and my granddaughter asked me to make it for her.
Thanks,
Shoshy
Hi Sara,
DeleteI figured out all of it and now I am stuck after row 11 is finished. I ended up with more stitches, so after the last sc 4 and join, I have too many stitches, must have happened in the sc rows.
Ok, all done and so cute! I did have to block it so it would be perfect, though didn't think I would have to originally.
DeleteThere flower came out so beautiful and i will post a photo in Ravelry and send you the link.
I plan on making the pink one next and the hairbands! Thanks so much for sharing this lovely pattern with every one!
Shoshy
Your very welcome Shoshy! Can't wait to see your photos. Seeing finished projects is one of my very favorite things. Happy Friday!
DeleteHi Sara,
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern. I have a question. i am new to crochet and wants to try cell phone cozy. i want to know how many chains should i start with. Please reply
thank you
I love it!! Looks like a great way to use up some scraps and a fast easy project. Can't wait to try it out! Thanks for the pattern.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this pattern. I'm not very experienced crochet-wise but I made a black sparkly bag tonight in just a few hours and I'm very proud of it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome ! I too have been meaning to crochet these. Very nice bags. Flowers look great! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteSara,
Thank you for sharing this lovely (and quick and easy) pattern! It has been a while since I've crocheted (decided to teach myself to knit!) so this was a fantastic pattern to jump back in with. Thanks again and God love you! <3
Aww... Thanks Mykell! This pattern has been so much fun to share. So happy it has been well loved around the blogosphere! Wishing you a happy Monday. :)
ReplyDeleteCould you please clarify what is sc, is it abbreviation for single chain?
ReplyDeletesc is abbreviation for single crochet. Here's a link on how to. http://crochet.about.com/od/learncrochet/ig/Photo-Crochet-Tutorials/Single-Crochet-How-To.htm
ReplyDeleteHope this helps. Happy crocheting. :)
hi i need help on Rnd 2 i dont really get what it means by sl st in each dc into sp between first two shells. can you please explain it more.
ReplyDeleteAfter joining round 1 slip stitch in the next two stitches and then work a begging shell in the space between the two shells of the previous round. Here's a good tutorial in how to work a slip stitch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfPjNCloRys Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteI've made two of these and I'm working on a third, they're wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHi Sara....I succesfully made another one for myself. Thank you very much for the great pattern. Love it so much.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteIs it ok to sell items that I make with this pattern as a WAHM?
I do allow sales of finished products to be sold from my patterns. If you're selling online I would appreciate a link back to the pattern. Thanks so much for asking! I would love to have a look at your shop if you're selling online. So send me a link. :)

Sara...I love this. Starting to make it now. Needed a little something special to make for my three year old niece for Christmas, so it's going to be hot pink with a white daisy. Of course, my college girls now want one, too. lol. :) Thanks for the pattern!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this pattern. I'm doing this for both of my girls with the purple yarn. I'll try to post pics once I'm done with them. I really appreciate you sharing this pattern with the world.
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. This will be my first time making something like this. I can't wait! Thanks Sara
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern, I've made three of it in the past week, two to your exact pattern, and one slightly skinnier and much taller to fit round my mother's new Kindle :-) I've stocked up in the post Christmas sales with rainbow acrylic yarn to make a whole pile to add to my birthday present box, since my daughters seem to go to a party every fortnight LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm penelope222 on ravelry if you want to see my (bad phone) pics!
hi sara...thank u for sharing your pattern it was very helpful as i was looking for a bag pattern...happy new year and many greeting from Greece...sorry if my blog seems Greek to you...!!xxxD i m joking...
ReplyDeletehello sara......thank you so much for sharing your pattern. i have not had much luck in making a simple crocheted bag but i'm trying...getting a bit frustrated but still trying...........gosh I wish there was a video to look at...i can do the shell clusters but now i'm on to row 2 and i'm not sure about doing this..........:-(
ReplyDeleteA video tutorial is on my list of things to do. In row 2 you should be working in the spaces between the shells. Does that make sense? I would be happy to try and help you along. I promise it's simple once you get going. Happy weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely bag! With the granny square stitch pattern, should the bag be lined? Although all the bags could work as cell phone/Ipod cozies.
ReplyDeleteas the last poster asks...I think they should be lined also. My pen and keys poke out and you can see things through it. Thought about weaving ribbon through holes also. We'll see what I come up with. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteAdorable!
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern! Thank you, great job!
ReplyDeleteHelp! I am stuck at Round 12. I am not sure how to sc around the bag and the handles too without overlapping. Could you please explain how this is done? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIf your sure round 11 is correct you should sc in each sc AND each chain stitch around. It shouldn't overlap? Let me know if that helps...
DeleteThis is the cutest pattern! I am going to start it tonight! Thanks for the access to this! I know two little girls who will love it.
ReplyDeleteHi Sara! Lovely bag! Thank you very much for the pattern! I have made the same bag. If you wish take a look here: http://olgasoleil.blogspot.com/2012/01/diamond-black-boutique-bag-and-lace.html
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!

Hi Sara, I am a new follower to your blog and I must say I really love the little bags.. They would make a lovely gift for any lady with some soap and a hankie or anything else that smells nice.. Well done, I intend to make a couple very soon.. :))
ReplyDeleteAww... Thanks Tina! I'm so happy you like it. Of course I would love to see your finished project. Feel free to link a photo on Ravelry or Tangled Happy's Facebook page. Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteSara,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Thanks so much for posting everything. I have two questions, 1. Are you on pinterest? I looked for a "Follow Me on Pinterest" link but I couldn't find one. You should definitely join! 2. Can you write out the pattern for the flower in this pattern? I'm on the other site but I'm having a tough time following it. I think I need more clear instructions, or maybe some pictures. My purse came out all right, I did the pink one. I'm having such a tough time with the flower though! :(
Thanks again!!
Christie
Thanks Christie! I'm so happy your enjoying Tangled Happy. I am on Pinterest and I love it! I've been meaning to add a button for this... Look for one at the top of the page. As for the flower... It's been a while since I 've made one of these. I will have to take a second look and see what I can do to help. Really you can use any flower you like. If you take a browse at all the finished projects for this pattern on ravelry.com I'm sure you will find something inspiring you might like. I'm sure this bag is pretty in pink! One of my favorite colors. :)
Deletei love this little bag... will try to make one soon
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is still my most popular pattern. It has been well loved around the blogosphere. I love seeing finished projects. So please... Send me the link when you get it all finished up. :)
DeleteSara - Thank you so much for this adorable pattern! I made the headband and I'm making a matching purse for a little friend that is about to be a big sister! When you whipstitch the bottom closed, did you do it "right-sides" out or did you turn it inside-out and whipstitch from the inside? Thanks in advance!! --Jessica
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica. I turned the bag inside-out and then whipstitched the seam closed. A perfect gift for a soon to be big sister!
DeleteI made this purse and lined it with recycled, print, t shirt material. It turned out good enough to sell at any boutique! Thanks for the pattern and well written instructions. Also, I made the "granny stripe" inspired head band with big flower for my daughter. She now has 3 of them and all the 6 year old girls at school love them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beverly! I'm so happy you like the pattern and that these finished items are being well loved. ♥
DeleteHi Sarah, Love the pattern and it works up so quick. If I might make a suggestion I think you should make the chain at the beginning and join BEFORE you do the first row. It was a bit difficult connecting after the single crochet was already done. i tweaked the second one I did and it was a bit smoother. The pattern is a good one. Being a "seasoned" crocheter I was able to go with the flow but for beginners it might have some tiny stumbling blocks. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great suggestions Elaine! I'm so happy you like the pattern. I alway seem to twist my chain when I join so I really like joining after a row of singles but... I'm sure this would work well for lots of others with more patients then I have. Lol.. Happy to see you at Tangled Happy today. Wishing you a happy week!
DeleteI made this last night... It is most definately the cutest little purse. The instructions were super easy. I have 4 grand daughters, so I must make 3 more. Thanks so much for sharing !
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa. Your very welcome! I'm so happy you like it. I hope they will be well loved by your granddaughters. Happy Friday!
Deletehi...i loved this bag... i made one, it tured out really beautiful.. can u plz help me out.. i had seen a kids bag on this site, it was white with pink n green flowers..i thought of making it for my niece..but i can no longer find the pattern on this site... have u removed any patterns?? if yes can u plz re-post it? plz help me..thanks in advance..and great job..
ReplyDeleteHello...
DeleteI haven't removed any posts... So if it's a bag you have seen here you should find it by browsing through the "bag" category. I took a quick look and didn't find anything matching your description... Wish I could be more helpful! I do hope you are able to find it.
Sara :)
Thanks I found the pattern. Thanks for ur suggestion of finding it in the bags category. This site is really helpful. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
DeleteHi! I love this bag! A friend of mine recently made one & shared it with me on Ravelry. I soooo have to make it! Thanks for sharing the pattern!
ReplyDeleteFeel free to check out my new blog, where I have a few patterns of my own. ;-)
http://earning-my-cape.blogspot.com/
An awesome Raveler just explained the 2nd row to me! You don't do the slip stitch on every dc... just the first one to get you to the space. Then continue with the shells in the spaces around. I thought you had to do the sl st in EVERY dc!
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that other crocheters are so nice and HELPFUL! So happy you got this all worked out. Enjoy!
DeleteHey Sara!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kayla, I am 28 years old from South Carolina, I have NEVER croched before (sp) But I made a head band, a Cup Cozy and now I am making the bag you posted a Picture of. It's so much fun! However, I am having a hard time when I finish the round I am working on. I am not sure how to do a SC and put it through the loop to do the shells again. What am I doing wrong? Can you Please email me and let me know. My email address is Eyeluvpuzzles2@aol.com
where Can i find the cute flower pattern? I just made it for my daughter. She is only 15 moths and carrying it around like its her baby...! she love it.
ReplyDeleteThere is a link to the flower pattern at the bottom of the post highlighted in blue. You will find the flower pattern there. :)
DeleteOn round three - it doesn't say to chain 3, yet says join in top of chain 3. Do I chain 3 or no?
ReplyDeleteHi Meg. Round 3 repeats round 2. So join in top of chain 3 then slip stitch to the next space then work beginning shell in that space (ch 3 then 2 dc in same space). Does that make sense?
DeleteThank you so much. I am nothing without a pattern and cute sweet clutches for grandgirls...
ReplyDeleteHi Sara, I love this parttern and tried.making it but.it came.out so small. I took it apart and did 61 stitches but still alittle to small for me. Do I increase your number by 3 to get a good size bag wich would be 71 and also do I chain 1 after the shell.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, this is so sweet:))
ReplyDeleteI love it! I am quite new in crocheting but I have already made some great proyects as this one. I have made it with 80 ch in the first row and the result was as nice as yours. I suggest you to write again the instructions in row 2 putting the punctuation correctly because it is a little hard to understand. Thanks a lots for sharing your pattern. I am going to decorate it in a pretty way and I will hung the photo on Ravelry.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your wonderful pattern! I really enjoy it!

Thanks for a beautiful and easy to follow pattern!
Hello, I'm a newbie to crochet. All I've done before is a granny square. I have need a bit of help with round 2; I'm a bit confused by the "sl stitch in each dc of shell into space between first two shells" can u offer any help /advice please?
ReplyDeleteThank you :-)
HI! I love this patter but I'm new at this and I don't really know what you mean by "Join in top of ch 3" I've tried looking it up online and youtube and nothing. Please help!!
ReplyDeleteThanks

This is very very cute - I have made bags about 3/4 of the size following your design, but in Christmas colours. I'm going to put them on cards and insert a nice organic mini chocolate in them. Thank you so much for the pattern, I've been searching for ages. This is perfect.

Thanks Tamara! I will take a look. :)
Deleteis it ok to put a pompom instead of a flower?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pattern! I modified it by ch 29, sc 28 and then turn and sc 28 in the back loops so you don't have to whip stitch the bottom together. It makes a great owl purse!!
ReplyDeleteThankyou so much for an easy pattern that turns out like its meant to! I've only been crocheting for 6 months and I just can't stop! I'm always looking for new things to make, THANKS :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah, I don't know what I'm doing wrong in round 1. I'm not getting 17 shells, far from it. I'm getting 10 and if I only skip one stitch I get 13. I've undone everything and made sure I started with 51 stitches, and still nothing.
ReplyDeletePlease help. Thanks

Hey Sara, i think it is a very nice bag. I come from the Netherlands, and would like to this bag like hooks. I understand not only the pattern as well. How large is the bag in reality? And hook you around or later to each other? Greetings Steveline

I really like your bag, I a trying to make it, and I don't understand where you come up with the 17 shells, after the first round, if I am doing it right I come up with about 30 or so, what am I doing wrong.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy. Are you skipping 2 stitches between each shell?
Delete
DeleteI am,I do the 51 and skip two and do shell ect and I come out with too many(if I go all the way around
With a starting chain of 50 +1 for turning you should be working in every 3rd ch. 50 divided by 3 is 17 so either your starting chain is off or your only skipping one ch instead of 2 chains... Does this make sense?
Deleteyes it does I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks, it looks really cute.
ReplyDeleteI started over again and was really careful with the count, and I still have 25 shells if I go all the way around. Here is my email to email me and see if I can get it figured out. Sorry for the trouble, the bag is so cute I want to make some for my nieces.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Wendy

I love this pattern and was going to make it for my 16 month old because she loves purses. I can't seem to get it right. My shells are curving and are not straight across like yours in the picture. I am doing the slip stitch in the dc. I'm not sure what im doing wrong..:)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I'm making one for my little niece for Christmas. Thanks so much for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the pattern :) I made mine with cotton thread and after I stitched the bottom together I turned the purse inside out to give ita rounded bottom. So cute!
ReplyDeleteI made this bag with cotton yarn in a cheery yellow:) it fits my daughters 7 inch tablet perfectly. She loves it!!
ReplyDeleteI've made 3 of these so far for my niece's. I love this pattern! My grandma wants one now and I'm looking to make the purse a little bigger. What is the chain multiple for this pattern please?
ReplyDeleteHi Sara! Me and my mother have a hard time with this pattern. We are stuck at Rnd 2 and does not know how to proceed. We are from sweden, and we have translated most of the shortenings but we don't understand how to go on anyway. We Think we have it right until Rnd 2, but do not know which Shell to use. /Linda
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the beautiful fun pattern! I found it on pintrest and used it for one of my re-creation projects! A definate sucess, I plan on making more :)
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern : ) Am working on my 3rd one, so many color and flower possibilities! Does anyone line them or have ideas on how to do that? Will try to be selling in my Etsy shop (will link back!)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU ,SARA. I'M LOOKING FOR IT FOR AGES. i SAW IT SOMEWHERE WITH NO EXPLANATIONS SINCE NOW.
ReplyDeleteIT IS SO CUTE!
Ty Sara I just got done making my clutch purse and I love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pattern. Love how mine turned out
ReplyDeleteHi!!I love this purse it is so cute! But I was wondering if there us a way to make the handle sturdier? Thanks for the pattern
ReplyDeleteI don't think it needs a sturdier handle, but rather just re-enforcement at the 2 corners where the handle connects to the body of the bag, maybe put in 1-3 extra stiches in each corner. I've made 4 for age 6-to-12 group. One came out smaller, but it still looks good. Missed a row I guess :) Nice easy pattern for something so posh looking depending how you decorate it
ReplyDeleteI think your right Faith! It does need a sturdier handle, any ideas anyone?
ReplyDeleteHello! I saw you give permission to sell bags made from this pattern but that was in 2010. Is it still ok? I would love to make these for my etsy shop and am happy to link back here. It's very adorable and thanks for sharing either way.
ReplyDeleteI just finished bag very cute the only thing I did different was add a bottom and a button closure. My grand daughter loves it.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this pattern and just made my first one yesterday. I used Deborah Norville Collection Serenity Chunky Weight yarn, which is so soft and squishy and perfect for this bag! It crocheted up SO quickly and I'm on my 2nd one already. I have question for you... the slip stitches at the top of the first dc of the next round, they leave a ridge that goes diagonal up the bag. What am I doing wrong, and how can I make that disappear? the bag still looks amazing though and I put a big flower by them, so you can't see them much, but I'd like it to really look smooth. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteKim
